If not, how can I be? If so, how should I live?
The goal is to pray for every single Southern
Baptist church by another Southern Baptist church,
to pray for the growth of the Kingdom, and the
needs of the church.

EMPOWERING
KINGDOM GROWTH
The purpose of this site is to provide
resources and information to help you evaluate your
health as a Kingdom Christian.
Empowering Kingdom Growth is an initiative
designed to call individual Southern Baptists to renew
their passion for the Lord Jesus and the reign of His
kingdom in their hearts, families, and churches from
which God can forge a spiritual movement marked by holy
living, sacrificial service and global witness.
EKG: The Heartbeat
of GOD
by Ken Hemphill
EKG: The Heartbeat of God is the keystone book
of the Empowering Kingdom Growth initiative. In thirty
brief chapters, Ken Hemphill walks you through the
history of God’s kingdom, tracing its roots
and tracking its resiliency through the pages of the
Old Testament and the teachings of Christ—watching
it explode in the early church and cascade into our
current century—rolling,
pulsating through people’s lives and revealing
God’s power through time and eternity.
With it comes the pure resolve of being
focused on one thing—God’s kingdom—and
discovering how this one-track mindset clarifies our
calling in life, invigorates our everyday, and deepens
our relationship with God and with others. Buy

should consider acting on what they have been taught
by holding a Kingdom Celebration Challenge.
The 40 Day Experience EKG planning
team should work with the pastor and leaders to choose
the leaders for each of the 4 strategic kingdom advance
teams. Other church teams or committees, such as

EMPOWERING KINGDOM GROWTH
Promoting a Passion
For
over 4 years now, I have had the pleasure
of traveling across our Convention on behalf
of the Executive Committee speaking
about Empowering Kingdom Growth. I have spoken
in local churches, associational settings,
and to various state convention staffs. I am
thrilled to report that there is growing excitement
and anticipation about this bold initiative
adopted by our convention in 2002.
We are seeing new
and bold initiatives at every level of our Convention
as people attempt to ask what it means to be Kingdom-focused.
Many of the state conventions have adopted creative
Kingdom initiatives to assist their churches. I
will be sharing several of these stories in the
days to come. The stories I share about local churches,
associations, or states are representative of many
that could be told and are only used to stimulate
us all to become more intentionally Kingdom-focused.

Prayer &
Empowering Kingdom Growth
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--As we read the New Testament,
we are not left with any question about the importance
of the Kingdom of God in the life and teaching of Jesus.
His ministry was announced by John the Baptist with
the startling words: Repent for the kingdom of heaven
is at hand (Matt. 3:2). And after the time of Jesus'
temptation, we are told that He "began to preach"
the message of the Kingdom (4:17) -- the clear implication
being that His teaching on the Kingdom was not an occasional
message, but a consistent message. Even a cursory reading
of the Gospels will illustrate this. Read

Russian Baptists
embrace Empowering Kingdom Growth
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (BP)--Empowering Kingdom Growth is
spreading across the formerly closed nation of the Russian
Federation. EKG, the emphasis that began in the South
Carolina Baptist Convention more than a decade ago and
now has been adopted by the Southern Baptist Convention,
was first introduced to the leaders of the Russian Baptist
Union (RBU) in July 2003. Read

The Seven Pillars
of a Kingdom Family
Pillar #1: Honoring God's
Authority
God,
as sovereign creator and sustainer of all, holds ultimate
authority over his creation. By establishing the family,
God has provided a unique setting in which each individual
should come to properly understand and respect authority.
I will glorify God by surrendering every area of my
life to Him, and by offering godly respect in all my
earthly relationships, starting in my family. [Read

EKG and Evangelism
by Kenneth Hemphill
We can't begin to comprehend the sacrifice that was
made when the King stepped down from His royal throne
and took upon Himself human flesh. Perhaps no one has
described this self-emptying better than the Apostle
Paul when he wrote: Who, although He existed in the
form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing
to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form
of a bondservant, and being made in the likeness of
men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled
Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death,
even death on a cross (Philippians 2:6-8). [Read

Evangelism & the Kingdom
of God
While the Kingdom of God was the
central theme of all preaching in the New Testament,
it has been virtually ignored by modern-day evangelists.
This absence of Kingdom-centered evangelism has had
devastating effects on the Western church and has now
reached critical mass. The deficiency is so great that
most evangelists and professors of evangelism would
be hard-pressed even to define the “gospel of
the kingdom” (Matthew 24:14; Mark 1:14). The result
has been a watered-down message that has no power to
change lives. [Read More]
EKG: What is it, anyway?
I
am hearing more and more people ask what this is all
about. Is it a new program and, if so, how does a Southern
Baptist participate in it? [Read
